Our environmental consultants work with researchers and technical specialists from across the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), combining commercial project delivery with the scientific capability to address both established requirements and questions that need further investigation.

• Scientific solutions to assess, monitor and de-risk marine and offshore energy projects
• Commercial project delivery backed by applied marine science
• Support across development, operation and decommissioning
• Scientific capability to investigate new and less-understood environmental questions
• Field, laboratory, modelling and advanced analytical capabilities
• Over a decade of experience in offshore and marine energy projects
• Project experience across the North Sea, Irish Sea, Northeast and Northwest Atlantic, and Gulf of Thailand

Our work supports offshore energy projects while maintaining a clear focus on the marine environment and the ecological and social systems connected to it. As the commercial arm of the Scottish Association for Marine Science, we are guided by scientific excellence, impartiality, independence, collaboration and accountability, alongside SAMS’ purpose of working for a healthy ocean and thriving people.
We take an evidence-led and proportionate approach to every commission. This means understanding the project question, using the most suitable methods, considering uncertainty and communicating findings transparently. We work constructively with clients, project partners, regulators, researchers and technical specialists to produce evidence that is scientifically robust, practical and useful for environmental and project decisions.

Offshore wind developers and decision-makers need reliable evidence about when minke whales are present in and around the Southern Trench Marine Protected Area. This collaborative project analysed ten years of passive acoustic monitoring data to establish a stronger baseline for environmental assessment, monitoring and management.
Marine growth is already an environmental and engineering consideration for offshore wind - but how much do we know about how it varies across a wind farm?
A new exploratory study used ROV imagery, structure-from-motion photogrammetry and machine-learning-based image analysis to examine marine growth on jacket foundations in a UK North Sea offshore wind farm.
